WirelessHART
is the first open and interoperable wireless communication standard
designed to address the critical needs of process industry users—reliable,
robust and secure wireless communication in real world industrial
plant applications.
The combination of HART plus wireless is a major step for the industry.
WirelessHART provides new capabilities
for users to get information on process parameters and to monitor
the performance of plant assets in areas that have previously been
technically or cost-effectively difficult to achieve. It extends
the Power of HART into areas that were difficult to reach with conventional
wired systems and provides low cost digital access to installed
HART devices.
A backward compatible extension to the HART Protocol, WirelessHART
provides the same user experience, ease-of-use, flexibility and
friendliness that users expect from HART-enabled products.
WirelessHART
- provides an alternate method for Users to access measurement
and monitoring information for existing HART-enabled devices
- enables a cost-effective alternative to adding new or additional
measurements to a control, asset management, safety or other system
- delivers new device power options for additional devices
- includes new low risk and low investment options for non-wireless
devices
- has no impact on current HART-enabled devices or existing 4-20mA
measurement and control loops
WirelessHART Features
Process Monitoring
WirelessHART
dramatically reduces the cost and complexity of installing and commissioning
HART-enabled devices. This enables a new range of monitoring control
applications that were impractical or impossible with wired technology.
New Measurement or Monitoring
Points
Add measurements that were too costly to implement with wires.
Access to multivariable information
Retrofit existing HART devices with WirelessHART
adapters to digitally access all variables – without touching
the existing 4-20mA connection.
Eliminate error-prone and expensive
manual processes
Automate the collection of non-critical measurements and integrate
with data historians or device maintenance applications.
Device Status and Diagnostics
WirelessHART is a simple and
cost-effective way to gain full digital access to valuable HART
information.
Status and Diagnostic Alerts
Combining WirelessHART with
newly added publishing features in HART provides a very effective
alerting solution. WirelessHART
devices can publish on a schedule or on exception. Published information
may include device malfunction, Primary Variable (PV) analog output
saturated, fixed or out of limits, configuration change, cold start
and more.
Field Device Diagnostics and Troubleshooting
These commands include: perform loop test, initiate self test, get
more status available information, set primary variable units, set
damping value, loop current alarm action and more.
Commissioning
Device setup and commissioning is faster when similar configuration
parameters are the same for multiple devices. Configuration tools
allow fast and easy configuration duplication that greatly minimizes
device setup errors and facilitates fast device commissioning. Device
configuration can be done with a handheld configurator, a PC running
configuration software or a device management application.
